This is truly - beyond - horrific. We have to get guns off the street. The Second Amendment was NOT written so any moron could own as many guns as they want or to have easy access to guns anytime they want. That actually VIOLATES the intent and original purpose of 2A. Alexander Hamilton was a strong proponent of a central government and supported the Second Amendment written by James Madison. But as were his fellow Founders, Hamilton rejected a standing army for state militias instead. Hamilton wanted the federal government to have the overarching authority to organize, arm, and discipline these militias, even while the states retained control over appointing officers. This is a foundation of the Second Amendment.

In fact, while George Washington was President, Washington, with Hamilton, personally led almost 13,000 militia men to western Pennsylvania to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion. The Second Amendment was hardly an open invitation to either overthrow or, even, challenge the federal government. Thanks for reading Free Thinking! This post is public so feel free to share it. We must require comprehensive background checks for ANY gun sale ANYWHERE to ANYONE to include gun shows and private sales; we must demand training, registration and tracking as part of gun ownership in comprehensive gun safety legislation.

The Second Amendment, like the rest of the Bill of Rights, is not unconditional but must be context and common sense driven as THIS is what the Founders intended

In 1949, in another Bill of Rights case before the then Supreme Court, SCOTUS Association Justice Robert Jackson wrote that: “There is danger that, if the Court does not temper its doctrine logic with a little practical wisdom, it will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact.” Multiple tens of thousands of Americans die by unrestrained gun access and gun violence every year. There have also been - at least - 217 mass shootings in the US so far in 2026 - and it is only July. There is no excuse....

Gun violence is a true epidemic and continues to escalate driven by Revisionist American History and the gun manufacturer lobby who especially sponsor GOP politicians consistently blocking any even basic and logical gun safety legislation on their behalf.
